The Main Causes of Water Pollution

By Lance Winslow

Mankind must continually look into his rearview mirror when it comes to the environment, and in doing so he must understand his history accurately and with a clear view supported by empirical data. When it comes to pollution we need to separate out the various types of pollution, and as you know some pollution occurs naturally and is very much part of the standard cycles.

Consider if you will the pollution caused by a volcano erupting, methane burp in the ocean, or erosion causing mineral deposits to leach contaminating what would normally be fresh water, then flowing to the ocean effecting sea life, delta regions, and changing the distribution and chemical balance of the water. When it comes to water pollution caused by mankind there are several serious challenges.

The first comes from nitrates from agriculture which run-off into fresh surface water, underground aquifers, and into the oceans. There are many dead zones off the coasts from these activities. Dead zones are areas where the oxygen has been depleted in the water, therefore nothing grows, little or no fish or aquatic life – this is a stain on mankind’s stewardship indeed.

Another big cause of pollution in water is the acidification caused by man-made emissions and chemicals into the air. Still, Mother Nature is also a big contributor in this case as well – volcanoes for instance. But that still doesn’t make it okay for humans to unnecessarily pollute the air causing acid rain, and run-off into the water.

Then of course, there is human waste, trash and garbage, as well as discharges from non-treated biological waste. Sewer treatment plants overflow too often, but then many areas do not have sewer treatment plants at all. There are also overflows from animal waste and livestock, and these too can be quite damaging to the environment.

Industrial waste, household waste, and polluted urban run-off are all serious. Taken individually, it’s really nothing the water cannot handle, but cumulatively, it’s a real challenge, and the results are in folks, we haven’t done such a hot job, we need to do better – that means everyone.

We also have all heard about oil spills and what have you, but we should realize that crude oil spills are not as bad for the environment as refined petroleum products. It’s not that crude oil doesn’t make a mess or cause problems, it surely does, but crude oil also leaks out into rivers and oceans and has for millions of years in various places, and that’s nothing new. It is part of the cycle of geological eras.

Yes, mankind needs to do a better job policing itself when it comes to pollution, after all we have to drink the water, and we also eat fish. So the Planet’s water is the last thing we need to be polluting if we wish to survive, that is to say; if we want to live long and prosper. Indeed, I hope you will please consider all this.

Five Ways to Prevent Water Pollution

By Crisologo Ramasasa

Water pollution is a worldwide concerns and every person living in this universe has his own share to prevent water from being abused and later on becomes non-potable and fit for human consumption.

According to studies, only one percent of the earth’s water is usable for human needs, therefore, 99% are not fit for plant and animal use.

If this one percent of water becomes polluted, how will living things survive?

This calls for the cooperation of everybody around the world to combine our efforts to prevent water pollution at all cost in order not suffer a nightmare later on.

Here are 5 Ways to Prevent Water Pollution

1. Refrain from throwing all wastes into the ocean, rivers, and lakes.

Everyone of us should share our efforts to refrain from throwing anything wastes to the rivers and other bodies of water. You can help this efforts by helping our authorities by way of disposing our waste materials in its proper disposal system. If you’re in the beach with your family encourage them to put their waste in the trash box or bring with you your own waste basket where you’ll put all your waste in the basket.

2. Make it a habit to use environmentally-friendly products for your home needs

Don’t ever use products that contains hazardous chemicals that may affect the health of your kids and other members of the family. Use biodegradable green products like natural toiletries, soaps and for house cleaning use vinegar than using bleach and synthetic chemical cleansing products.

3. Economize use of water

It’s common sense, when you use less water, chances are you minimize the use of water and less waste water flows to the sewage treatment plants.

To reduce your water consumption, when taking a bath use your shower than a bath. Shower bath is economical since the flow of water is controlled as against bathing yourself.

Use a natural landscape to use a natural water flow into your lawn and garden.

4. Use organic fertilizer and pesticides

The only way to prevent polluting our water source is the use of organic farming and formulating your own homemade insecticides. Organically produced farm products are safe to humans and animals and reduces us from acquiring some serious diseases.

5. Don’t cut trees

Cutting of trees loosens the soil and creates soil erosion resulting in the disturbances of the soil structure and water source thus making the water flow totally contaminated and unsafe for human consumptions.

There are lots of preventive measures you can apply to prevent water pollution, but the above ways are enough to give you the guides how you can minimize polluting our water source for the benefits of the next generations

Main Causes of Water Pollution

By Nathalie Fiset

Today, the world is facing one of the most serious problems of humanity and other forms of life, pollution. It is a known fact that pollution is very rampant all over the globe. Just look around and you will see rivers, lakes, beaches that are murky, stinky, and lifeless. Plastic, empty cans, bottles, and other trash have replaced the fishes and other wonderful marine creatures that used to reside under water. Yet, when scarcity arises and when epidemics occur many point their fingers to others and turn their backs from the responsibility. But in fact there is no one else to blame but the people. Man is the main cause of water pollution.

People pollute the water with chemicals and other hazardous materials. People have no regard to water – their source of life. They do not realize that this once abundant resource is rapidly being contaminated due to their negligence and carelessness.

Waste disposal has always been a chronic problem, not only because of the quantity of wastes, but because of its kind and the inadequate provision for a good system and technology to address the problem. There are many sources of water pollution but it is not the source that is really causing the problem but the improper disposal of the pollutants. People resort to careless disposal because it is cheaper, more advantageous, or simply convenient to them.
